The O'Sullivan name has long been synonymous with New Zealand Racing - Caitlin O'Sullivan was destined to play a role in the industry. A hard worker with meticulous attention to detail, she plays an integral role behind the scenes.
With a passion for both racing and the marketing and media industry, Caitlin puts her talents to use through her management of the stable's marketing, work with LOVERACING.NZ and her own digital marketing business, Miss Digital.
How did you first get involved in the racing industry?
By being born! With a grandfather and uncle training horses and dad riding, I didn’t have much choice. My earliest racing memories involve heading along to the Matamata Races to watch dad ride. I’ve been hooked ever since!
What is your current role at Wexford?
Social media and marketing – and cheerleader on raceday!
What do you enjoy most about your role?
My job keeps me up to date with what’s happening in the stable, without the 3am starts!
I honestly can’t think of anything.
What has been your proudest racing moment with Wexford?
There’s been PLENTY. Back-to-back New Zealand Derby wins in 2021 and 2022 were pretty special. More recently, it was exciting being on-course at Hastings for Dark Destroyer’s Gr.1 Tarzino Trophy win!
Do you have a soft spot for one horse in particular?
Dragon Leap and Asterix – and not just because of their talent! They’re both perfect gentlemen. I also have a soft spot for our Jon Snow x Higher Authority colt. He’s got a super cheeky nature and is very handsome! I’m lucky enough to own a very small share and can’t wait to see him out racing (likely next season).
One horse in the barn people should keep an eye on over the next few months?
Asterix recently came back into work – winning the Gr.1 New Zealand Derby in just his fourth start, he’s an extremely talented horse. I’m also excited to see Karman Line kick off her new campaign. We have a lovely Ace High filly in the barn, but she’s not likely to be seen until the Autumn.
What is your favorite thing about Wexford Stables?
I love that the horse always comes first. Any decision made by Lance and Andrew will be made with the horse’s wellbeing front of mind.
I’m really proud of our owner communications. I’m biased, but I honestly believe no one in New Zealand provides better communications than we do. We often joke about Andrew being the next Steven Spielberg – he’s forever videoing our horses to send to our owners!
I also love the team environment at Wexford. Every one of our staff members contribute to our successes on the track. Celebrating our wins together as a team is always a lot of fun!
