Saja Makes an Impression on Debut

Saja made the perfect start to her racing career at Tauranga, delivering an impressive debut victory for Wexford Stables in the hands of Craig Grylls, fresh off his Group 1 success aboard Waitak.

The three-year-old filly showed plenty of determination and an exciting turn of foot to get the job done. Faced with a wall of horses ahead of her turning for home, Grylls brought her to the outside, where she unleashed a powerful finish to score by almost a length.

Adding further merit to the performance, Saja recorded the fastest last 600m and 400m of the race, an impressive feat against older opposition.

Co-trainer Andrew Scott was pleased with what he saw from the filly.

“We've kept her quiet at the trials and it's good to see her sustain a long run. That was well encouraging for a greenie,” Scott said.

The victory was also a special result for owners Claire and Warren “Bolts”.

“Claire and Bolts are brilliant. They know what it takes to make horses and make them good. This was their first winner for our camp and they've been nothing but a pleasure,” Scott said.

With an impressive debut under her belt, Saja has given the Wexford team plenty of reasons to be excited about what lies ahead.
